"Sarah A. Calhoun was born in Ireland, Nov. 3, 1806 of Scotch-Irish parentage and died in Grinnell, Iowa, Dec. 19th, 1902, being at the time of her death 96 years, 1 month and 14 days old. When six years of age she accompanied her parents to Canada and on Oct. 26 1830, was married to W.J. Rutledge, who preceded her to the better land July 30, 1877.

"Of eight children born to this union four survive her: Mrs. Elizabeth Barnes, Rochester, N.Y.; Wm.J. Rutledge, Hutchinson, Kan.; Mrs. Mary Nash, Des Moines, Iowa; and Mrs. Nora Hays, Grinnell, Iowa.

"In 1845 they moved to Illinois and settled on a farm near Oregon, in Ogle Co. At the close of the war they moved to Iowa and on Nov. 1 1867 to Montezuma. After a residence there of about 27 years she removed with her daughter Nora to Grinnell, where she remained till her death."
