Doris M. Wadsley was born to Claudia and Smith Lowrey of Pomeroy, Iowa on December 24, 1901. She passed away at the Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, California, on January 29, 1911 [sic] at the age of 79 years, one month and five days.
Doris was raised and later adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Newell of Hastings, Iowa. She lived with her paternal grandparents in Early while she attended high school. After graduating in 1919, she enrolled at Cedar Falls Teachers College. Having received her certificate, she taught school for a short period in southern Iowa.
On June 22, 1921, Doris married Floyd M. Wadsley in the home of her parents at Hastings and moved to Earty [sic] where she spent her entire married life. She was the mother of two daughters Marvel, Mrs. William Smith of Nemaha, and JoAnne, Mrs. Dean Brown of Palatine, Illinois.
Mrs. Wadsley was involved in many community affairs during her life, serving in many leadership roles. She was a member of the Early Methodist Church for nearly 60 years, served as president of the Earty Women's Club, was Eighth District Director of the Federated Women's Club of Iowa, and a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Although she took time for community activities, Doris' main love and devotion was to her family and home She took great pride in her yard and garden. In later years when failing health made it difficult for her to remain active, she continued to find contentment and satisfaction working among her roses and in her garden.
The spring and summer months were special to her. Somehow, the beauty of her flowers and growing plants gave her renewed vigor and strength. Mrs. Wadsley's daughter Marvel, a brother Kenneth Scott formerly of Spencer, Iowa, and a grandson, Steven Smith preceded her In death.
