General Information
18 Dec 1829 immigrated to Sydney, NSW, on board the Harriet, from Cork, Ireland, five months at sea. Invited to join his uncle, Dr. Forster, of the 1st Royals.
1834 address at Field of Mars, Parramatta, later of Kissing Point and Eastwood.
1837 purchased property [Carwoola] on the Molonglo Plains near Queanbeyan, NSW.
1838 made overland journey with sheep to Port Phillip, and Melbourne.
Later took up a survey in Victoria, near Kilmore, tenant community.
1840 married Eliza Kirk, 18 August, at St James' Church in Sydney, NSW.
1842 took up 5,000 acre survey he named Farnham.
1844 went to reside in Belfast, purchased mercantile business.
Politically active throughout 1850s and 1860s.
1862 company went bankrupt and eventually settled debts
1865 crash, was living in Port Fairy, moved to the Farnham estate.
Made many trips to Europe later in life.

J.P., and member of the Legislative Assembly.

He and his brothers were landowners, merchants, and bankers at Port Fairy (also called Belfast), where William was a magistrate, mayor, and alderman.
One of the earliest and best known of the pioneers of the colony of Victoria.

Burial: One-hill Cemetery, Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia.
